Ané das Pedras
Immersive Animation & Projection
An invitation by artist Aline Bagre to bring her embroidered arts to life through animation and to create an immersive audiovisual experience at Sesc Paraty, Brazil.
Ané das Pedras is an indigenous performance art piece and ritual created by artist Bárbara Matias Kariri.
The project
Ané das Pedras brings together artistic practices, ancestral knowledge and visual narratives. Starting from the textures, figures and gestures of the embroidery, the immersive room creates another way to encounter these images: through movement, sound and space.
My approach
My work focused on developing the animation language and translating the embroidered imagery into moving images, while preserving the handmade quality of the original pieces.
Combining AI-assisted processes, digital animation and frame-by-frame interventions, I explored how threads, fibers, figures and symbolic elements could move, transform and interact without losing their tactile character.
Spatial exploration
The immersive room was conceived as an extension of the artwork. I developed spatial studies exploring different projection surfaces and possible floor treatments, considering how the audience would experience the images from within the installation.
The final solution brought the animations together across the walls, complemented by the burgundy carpet selected for the exhibition.
